About Dr Amrit Lota

Dr Amrit Lota is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital, one of the UK’s leading heart centres, and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He provides expert assessment and care for a wide range of cardiac conditions, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, valve disease, and arrhythmia. His subspecialist expertise includes myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure.

Dr Lota graduated from the University of Oxford in 2008 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He was also awarded first-class honours for his intercalated degree in cardiovascular science from the University of Oxford in 2005, and received several academic prizes and scholarships. He completed part of his advanced training at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States.

In 2020, he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London, funded by the British Heart Foundation, for research in advanced cardiac imaging and clinical genetics to improve the precision diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. His work has been recognised with multiple Young Investigator Awards.

Dr Lota has broad clinical experience and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2023. He plays an active role in training future doctors and advancing practice through research and innovation.

Dr Lota has also leads a specialist cardio-rheumatology clinic, focusing on the prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease in patients with rheumatic disorders—a unique service bridging cardiology and rheumatology to improve patient outcomes.
